ROCKSTAR Energy Drink’s Rob MacCachren Claims The Overall Victory At The MasterCraft Safety Tecate SCORE San Felipe 250 For The Second Year In A Row

ROCKSTAR Energy Drink’s Rob MacCachren Claims The Overall Victory
At The MasterCraft Safety Tecate SCORE San Felipe 250
For The Second Year In A Row

Rob Mac won the SF250 for the second year in a row
Luck may have allowed Rob MacCachren the top starting position for this past weekend’s 26th annual MasterCraft Safety Tecate SCORE San Felipe 250, but it was Rob’s impressive driving skills and the ROCKSTAR Energy Drink / BFGoodrich Tires / MasterCraft Safety team that put him at the finish line first.  Any advantage that MacCachren was hoping to capitalize on by starting out front was taken away by Race Mile 4 when a spectator constructed booby trap resulted in a flat tire that let six competitors pass while MacCachren’s co-driver, Cisco Bio, was performing the tire swap.  So much for clean air! It took 50 miles for the patient veteran to regain five of those positions in his No. 20 Jimco-built Trophy Truck campaigned under the MasterCraft Racing banner with the support of Rockstar Energy Drink, BFGoodrich Tires and Fox Racing Shox.
“By the time I saw the booby trap I knew it was unavoidable and I just hit it causing the left front to go flat,” remarked MacCachren after the race. “The first 20 or so miles of San Felipe are just brutal on the truck’s suspension, I knew I had to push harder than normal earlier in the race to make up for the downtime during the flat. I couldn’t have done that through the whoops if it wasn’t for the Fox Racing Shox Cactus Coolers.  We tried out the coolers last year here in September and they worked great.  I wish I could say they are my secret weapon, but unfortunately for me anyone can buy them these days!”
Can anyone top Rob MacCachren in San Felipe?
Held along the Sea of Cortez in picturesque Baja California, Mexico, the 2012 MasterCraft Safety Tecate SCORE San Felipe 250 was the third of SCORE International’s five race desert series. The course traversed 248 miles of sandy washes, deep silt beds, and incredibly rough rocky terrain that caused the steering on the No. 20 truck to lock up around RM100, but Rob and Cisco kept their cool and were able to recover with minimal downtime.  At that time only one truck, driven by 2011 Baja 1000 winner Andy McMillin, was in front of Rob Mac.  At RM 178 MacCachren took the physical lead back and held it all the way to the finish line, where he beat the next fastest vehicle by over four minutes for a time of 4:25:03 and an average speed of 56.29 miles per hour, besting even the top two-wheeled finisher.
“I guess that good things come in threes,” MacCachren joked after the race, referring to his third straight victory in San Felipe.  Last season he won the MasterCraft Safety Tecate SCORE San Felipe 250 in 4:17:45 and the SCORE San Felipe Challenge of Champions in 4:12:21. The veteran off-road racer has also previously won three Borg Warner Cup short course races in a row and three straight short course championships from 2008 to 2010, and now three straight desert races in San Felipe. MacCachren earned his 48th career SCORE class win, his 11th career SCORE Trophy Truck race win along with his eighth class win including fourth SCORE Trophy Truck and overall race victory in the MasterCraft Safety Tecate SCORE San Felipe 250. MacCachren is now tied with Las Vegas brothers Ed and Tim Herbst with the most race wins in the 18-plus year history of SCORE’s premier class.
Despite some issues Robbie Pierce finished just outside the top ten in Trophy Trucks
MacCachren’s MasterCraft Racing teammate Robbie Pierce finished tenth out of 23 Trophy Trucks in SCORE International’s premier class and 14th overall.  Pierce started 15th off the line and was running strong until his No. 30 Impact by MasterCraft Safety Jimco Trophy Truck lost the rear brakes, costing the team 20 minutes in the main pit at RM 124.  After resolving the brake situation Pierce had to weave his way through race traffic for the second half of the race, but he still had a few issues.  “We saw Andy McMillin in Azufre Wash and waved as we went by, but the off-road gods must not have thought it was very funny… both rear tires got flats in the next mile!” Pierce jokingly recounted at the finish line.

MacCachren is now first in season points heading into the Tecate SCORE International Baja 500 on June 1-3 in Ensenada, Baja California, Mexico. For more information regarding this and other SCORE events visit www.score-international.com. MacCachren also starts the short course season this month with the first Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series (LOORRS) event at Firebird International Raceway in Phoenix on March 31st and April 1st and the TRAXXAS The Off Road Championship (TORC) series on April 20th and 21st at Charlotte Motor Speedway.  Be sure to follow all of the team’s latest developments throughout the 2012 racing season in the desert and short course via social media by “liking” Rob MacCachren at www.facebook.com/21RobMac and sending a friend request to Robbie Pierce at http://www.facebook.com/robbieTT30. Robbie Pierce is a fan favorite in Baja
Pierce is the owner and CEO of MasterCraft Safety and Impact; companies that provide life-saving race and military products through real-world and laboratory testing.  Pierce purchased a ProTruck in 2005 and his first race as driver-of-record was the 2005 BITD Vegas to Reno race.  Proving to be a quick study, Robbie finished second in class in the Tecate SCORE Baja 500. After a mere three races in ProTruck Pierce moved up to the marquee Trophy Truck class, a completely unlimited class considered the pinnacle of off-road racing.  His first race in his current No. 30 Jimco Trophy Truck was the SCORE Laughlin Desert Challenge in 2008, where he finished 5th overall.  His best finish to date is second place at the Terrible’s SCORE Primm 300 in 2010, just a mere three weeks after a horrific race crash that left him with two broken collarbones and broken ribs.  Robbie finished sixth in SCORE Trophy Truck season points in 2009 and fourth in SCORE Trophy Truck season points in 2010.  The 2010 season is also the year that Pierce received SCORE’s distinguished honor of “Person of the Year.”

Rob MacCachren possesses a rare combination of talent that ranks him among the elite of off-road racing, regardless of the venue.  His 25-year racing career includes an unmatched 191 race victories and 20 series championships in both short course and open desert racing, which also earned him a spot in the Off-Road Motorsports Hall of Fame in 2011.  Amongst those victories are 5 SCORE Baja 500 wins and 5 SCORE Baja 1000 victories in the desert, the crown jewel of which was MacCachren’s domination at the 1296 mile run down the Mexican peninsula at the 2007 SCORE Baja 1000.  Good things come in threes for MacCachren in short course racing, as the talented driver has won three consecutive series championships, three consecutive Borg Warner Cup races, three Governor’s Cups, and been named to the Auto Racing Writers & Broadcasters Association Auto Racing All-America First Team three times in his career.

MasterCraft Racing’s Robbie Pierce and Rob MacCachren Double Down at the 2012 Laughlin Desert Challenge

Wednesday, January 11th, 2012

It has been said, “a journey is measured in friends and not in miles.”  For anyone who races, it can be measured in both and this has certainly been the case for MasterCraft Racing’s Robbie Pierce and Rob MacCachren.  What began as a serendipitous venture at SCORE’s 2009 Primm 300 race has evolved into a top-level racing partnership that, like anything worth doing, has solidified the respect and friendship of two teammates and had it’s share of victories, losses, heartbreaks and truly gratifying moments.
pierce:mac

While Rob MacCachren, Robbie Pierce, and the support crew have had some incredible successes over the previous two years, the drivers and the crew still haven’t quite accomplished everything they set out to do as a team.  “We came close to getting Rob Mac the SCORE Championship last year and me my first Trophy Truck win, but we couldn’t quite pull it off.  I guess we are just going to have to try again this year!” said team owner and driver of the No. 30 SCORE Trophy Truck, Robbie Pierce.

scaled_e1326074506

For a third consecutive year, Robbie Pierce and Rob MacCachren are teaming up and campaigning two premier Jimco-built SCORE Trophy Trucks in the 2012 SCORE International Desert Racing Series.  The trucks will be campaigned under the MasterCraft Racing banner with Robbie Pierce’s No. 30 truck wearing the Impact / BFGoodrich / Fox Shox livery and Rob MacCachren’s No. 20 truck will be decked out in the familiar Rockstar Energy Drink / BFGoodrich Tires / MasterCraft Safety regalia.

“It truly has been an honor to race with Rob MacCachren,” said Robbie Pierce.  “The first year we had a lot to learn but last year the team really found its groove.  The crew is organized, the pits were efficient and well orchestrated and we really came together as a team.  As long as we continue to build upon that foundation I think we will get what we are after this year.”

Most teams and drivers would be happy with a 2011 season that found them claiming the overall victory at not one, but two San Felipe desert races, finishing second in points in the SCORE Trophy Truck class, earning the Toyota Milestone Award for completing all 1762.02 race miles during the year, and being one of only two individuals inducted into the 2011 Off-Road Motorsports Hall of Fame.  Most drivers aren’t Rob MacCachren though.  With a combined desert and short-course off-road racing career that boasts an astonishing 189 victories and 20 series championships, there is no doubt Rob Mac sets the bar high personally and also for the team.

The first event for both Robbie Pierce and Rob MacCachren will be the 18th Annual SCORE Laughlin Desert Challenge held January 13 – 15, 2012 in Laughlin, Nevada.  Drawing the second starting position for qualifying, Pierce will put on his Impact driving suit and helmet and strap into his MasterCraft Safety 3G seat and restraints at 2pm PST January 13th in hopes of claiming a favorable starting position for Saturday’s competition while teammate, Rob Mac, will be qualifying seventh in a solo lap over the 6.25 mile course.  This year’s competition is two separate races which doubles the stakes and sets the stage for the SCORE points championship as the season heads into the 26th Annual MasterCraft Safety Tecate SCORE San Felipe 250 in March.

The SCORE Laughlin Desert Challenge course features eight 6.25 miles loops that have been described as nothing less than merciless and unforgiving.  “Its like doing the first 20 miles of San Felipe, twice, at a full sprint – except the ‘whoops’ are squared off 3 foot concrete holes that beat the heck out of you and the trucks.  We will do as much damage to the trucks in one day at Laughlin as we do an entire Baja 1000,” remarked Rob MacCachren.  “There’s no doubt the team can get the trucks torn down and re-prepped Saturday night and ready for Sunday’s race.  We really have a great crew.”

crew

Previous year’s attrition rates amongst the state-of-the-art SCORE Trophy Trucks are a testament to this course’s hostile terrain.  With just 17 of 32 competitors in the elite unlimited truck class finishing in 2011, it is anyone’s guess which drivers and teams will remain victorious when the checkers drop on Sunday’s race.  As a seven-time class champion at the Laughlin Desert Challenge, Rob MacCachren’s previous Trophy Truck victory at this event was at the second running of the race in 1996.  One thing is for sure, expectations for the MasterCraft Racing / Rockstar Energy Drink / BFGoodrich Tires team are running high as crew and drivers look to dominate the first two races of the SCORE International season.

Not only will it be a busy year for the MasterCraft Racing team, it will also be double the work for the drivers. In addition to campaigning trucks in the SCORE International series, both Rob MacCachren and Robbie Pierce will also be competing in separate team efforts in this year’s Best in the Desert Parker 425 on February 3rd – 5th.  Pierce will be getting behind the wheel and driving the final 142 mile lap of the of the No. 42 MasterCraft Safety / BFGoodrich Tires Trick Truck of Will J. Staats while Rob MacCachren will be campaigning the No. 6 Trick Truck with Steve Sourapas who, with Rick Geiser, finished fourth in last year’s Parker race.

“The plan this year is for Staats and me to compete in the entire Best in the Desert season in his No. 42 Trick Truck and I believe Rob will also be doing the same thing with Steve Sourapas in the No. 6 all of 2012,” said Pierce.  “I love racing in the desert so I will take all the wheel time I can get but with the acquisition of Impact and running two full desert racing schedules, I will have to park the Pro2 truck for this year.  If my schedule allows I am still considering Crandon though.  It’s the Baja 1000 of short course off-road and it is definitely on my bucket list.”

Be sure to follow all of the team’s latest developments throughout the 2012 SCORE International desert racing season via social media by “liking” Rob MacCachren at http://www.facebook.com/21RobMac and MasterCraft Safety at http://www.facebook.com/mastercraftsafety or by sending Robbie Pierce a friend request at http://www.facebook.com/robbieTT30.

Cindy J. Shepherd Joins Impact by MasterCraft Safety

Tuesday, January 10th, 2012

MasterCraft Safety has made huge investments in the Impact brand since announcing their purchase of the safety equipment manufacturer from racing pioneer Bill Simpson in December of 2010.  Under the direction of Robbie Pierce, the Impact and MasterCraft Safety brands have continued to establish themselves as leading U.S. manufacturers of racing and military safety products.

As MasterCraft Safety and Impact continue to innovate and evolve so does the support staff within both organizations.  “The team that I assemble to represent my companies and our vital life-saving racing and military products is just as important as the products themselves,” remarked Robbie Pierce, owner and CEO of Impact and MasterCraft Safety.  “It is with great honor that I can announce the addition of Cindy J. Shepherd to our team as our North Carolina based motorsports team and trackside representative.”
Shepardpic

With an impressive list of accomplishments and a well-rounded career, Cindy J. Shepherd’s experience and qualifications reflect the dedication Robbie Pierce and Impact have towards delivering quality U.S. made safety products with an exceptional level of customer service and support.  Ms. Shepherd’s previous background is deeply rooted in motorsports and includes a number of diverse roles within Jennifer Jo Cobb Racing and the Victory in Motorsports organizations.  “Cindy brings with her a profound understanding of the inner workings of a team and this previous experience helps her intimately understand the essential nature of her position as a representative of Impact,” commented Robbie Pierce.
shepardmorgan

It would come as no surprise that working in motorsports and being at the track is second nature for Ms. Shepherd as she is also the daughter of veteran NASCAR racer, Morgan Shepherd (pictured above).  Making his Winston Cup debut at Hickory Motor Speedway in 1970, Morgan continues to be an example of determination and enthusiasm both on and off the track through his competitive and charitable efforts.  Last year, at the age of 70, Shepherd competed in a full season of the NASCAR Nationwide series campaigning the No. 89 Salvation Army Chevrolet for Faith Motorsports.  In addition to the impressive length of his racing career, Morgan also reached another benchmark by celebrating the 25th year anniversary of the Morgan Shepherd Charitable Fund that provides much needed assistance to the severely handicapped and underprivileged.

“With Ms. Shepherd’s previous qualifications and the solid foundation and strength of character both her and her dad continuously demonstrate, there’s no doubt we have found the perfect candidate for our North Carolina based team and trackside representation,” remarked Robbie Pierce.  “We are exceptionally excited to have her join our staff and look forward to a successful 2012 race season together.”

Cindy J. Shepherd’s position as team and trackside representative starts immediately as both Impact and race teams are already preparing for Daytona and the start of the 2012 season.  Cindy can be reached at cshepherd@impactraceproducts.com or by calling Impact’s North Carolina office number at 704.799.0729.  There’s still time to order fully custom crew and driving suits in addition to dye sublimated crew shirts for the best representation of your sponsors and team.

MasterCraft Safety and Impact Have All Your Safety Needs Covered This Winter

Tuesday, December 20th, 2011

HANS

Unrivaled in the realm of motorsports protection, it would be easy enough for MasterCraft Safety and Impact by MasterCraft Safety to rest on their laurels.  Instead, both companies constantly forge ahead and innovate in an effort to provide the best possible products from head to toe, with MasterCraft’s legendary energy-attenuating seats and occupant restraints, and Impact’s industry-leading helmets, driving suits, and apparel.  Continuous innovation on the part of MasterCraft and Impact provides cutting-edge safety solutions unrivaled in the industry.

The only product that MasterCraft Safety does not manufacture and is required by most of the racing sanctions is a head and neck restraint (HANS  ®) device.  Well, MasterCraft thought of that too.  They are now an official HANS ® dealer, providing you true one-stop shopping for all of your safety needs.  The HANS ® system has reduced the risk of basilar skull fractures caused by rapid deceleration by an astonishing 80 percent*.  Impact’s complete line of American-made helmets and both Impact and MasterCraft’s restraints are available with HANS ® compatible 2-inch shoulder harnesses, allowing the device to sit more comfortably on the shoulders and providing the ultimate in safety.

* Based on testing performed by HANS ® inventor Dr. Robert Hubbard at General Motors’ Auto Safety Test laboratories.

MasterCraft Safety’s and Impact’s new Quick Safety Release (QSR) adjusters makes the industry’s best restraints even better.  Does your race or play vehicle need to accommodate different drivers and co-drivers?  Restraint adjustments are now easier than ever thanks to the QSR, even with gloves on!  Available in configurations from five-point to seven-point harnesses from both MasterCraft Safety and Impact, the QSR is just another example of how both companies continue to raise the bar.

stats

Racers are not the only ones benefiting from MasterCraft Safety’s innovation.   The defense division of MasterCraft has performed unprecedented laboratory and live fire testing on the energy abatement associated with the seats used in armored military vehicles such as the MRAP, LSAC, and LTAS.   MasterCraft’s 350G +Z axis (nominal) impact sled testing resulted in a Dynamic Response Index (DRI) of 13.7.  Previous blast testing to the NATO STANAG Level 2A standard indicated an 84% reduction of energy in a 55G live fire event.  What does this mean to civilians?  The same technology used to develop MasterCraft Safety’s defense line of seating is integrated into the full line of commercially available products available to the public.  Click on the image above to view videos of MasterCraft’s testing procedures.

About HANS ®:

The HANS ® Device is a revolutionary SFI-approved safety product that is considered mandatory safety equipment by over 40 sanctioning bodies, including NASCAR.  It greatly reduces the likelihood of head or neck injuries, such as a basilar skull fracture, in the event of a crash.  The purpose of the device is to stop the head from “whipping forward” in a crash, without otherwise restricting movement of the neck. In a crash, an unprotected body is decelerated by the seatbelt with the head maintaining velocity until it is decelerated by the neck. The HANS ® device maintains the relative position of the head to the body, with the device transferring energy to the much stronger chest, torso, shoulder, seatbelts and seat as the head is decelerated.
